Obverse: Half length figure of Charles I, dressed in the rich robes of the Order of the Garter, decorated with a star, one hand on his hat lying on the table and the other holds his gloves; similar to a painting of Charles I by van Dyke in the 1630s.
Probably by T Rawlins
Together with the reverse, the two thin silver cast plates would be united to form the medal.
This is a shell casting probably from the 18th century. Examples such as this one that were not attached to a reverse were filled to create a more substantial uniface medal. This medal appears to be filled with lead whilst an example at the British Museum is filled with red wax.
