  • An extremely rare variant of the Diamond Jubilee Medallet, officially rendered for suspension for Mayors and Provosts, with only 512 officially produced for distribution at the Jubilee Parade on 20 June 1897, in dated Royal Mint case of issue. This very seldom seen variant of the Official Royal Mint 1897 Diamond Jubilee Medal was struck in Gold for Lord Mayors and Lord Provosts (14 Awarded), and Silver for Mayors and Provosts (512 Awarded). Both the standard Jubilee medal and the Mayors and Provosts version were awarded unnamed. The Medal followed the Golden Jubilee Medal, issued ten years previously, both in terms of design and award criteria, with those qualifying for both medals receiving a ribbon clasp in lieu of a second medal. Recipients were entitled to wear the award alongside other Coronation and Jubilee medals. Until November 1918, these were worn before Campaign medals, after which time the order of wear was changed, with such now worn after Campaign medals and before Long Service awards. Ladies could wear the medal near their left shoulder with the ribbon tied in the form of a bow. In original box.
