Obverse: head of Orpheus with lyre

Probably Coudray's most celebrated medallic work.

Possibly a 1920’s or 1930’s striking, a magnificent massive Art Nouveau medal.

At the entrance to the Underworld on his quest to reclaim his bride Eurydice, Orpheus was able to lull the guard dog Cerberus to sleep with the sounds of his lyre.
